going dutch

I will be spending the next three weeks in the Netherlands touring and researching water geographies, river restoration and ecological water infrastructure.
I've been only two days in Rotterdam, and already the presence of water in the city and its impact on the urban structure form a prominent cultural landscape. Until 2004, the city's port was the busiest in the world, and it's not even on the sea, which is truly remarkable.
Although canals are not pervasive like in Amsterdam, Rotterdam does have its moments, where canals become linear promenades inscribed in the civic structure of the city. In fact, canals were the sole survivors to the blitz, after the city center became tabula rasa.
I am looking forward to learn more, and will post as i do.
